Programme Overview

Sustainability governance is entering a new phase. Boards are no longer expected to view ESG and sustainability as standalone reporting or compliance matters. Increasingly, directors are required to understand how sustainability intersects with technology, stakeholder trust, organisational resilience and long-term value creation. This requires boards to move beyond oversight of sustainability disclosures and towards a more integrated view of how ESG considerations are embedded into strategy, risk, culture, innovation and decision-making.

At the same time, technology is reshaping the sustainability landscape. From artificial intelligence and data analytics to digital platforms and emerging technologies, organisations are using technology to support decision-making, monitor risks, engage stakeholders and improve performance. However, technology also introduces new governance considerations, including data integrity, ethical use, misinformation, cyber risk, stakeholder confidence and accountability. For boards, the challenge is not only whether technology is being adopted, but whether it is being governed responsibly and aligned with the organisation’s values, purpose and long-term sustainability goals.

This programme introduces the concept of ESG+T, or ESGT, as a forward-looking sustainability governance lens. It examines how boards and senior leaders can integrate ESG, technology, trust and resilience into a more holistic governance approach. Participants will explore how sustainability governance can be strengthened through proactive oversight, stronger alignment between the board and management, clearer accountability, and a deeper understanding of stakeholder expectations.

A key focus of the programme is organisational resilience. Participants will be introduced to the virtuous and vicious resilience lifecycles, which provide a practical way to assess whether an organisation is building the conditions for long-term resilience or allowing weak governance, poor culture, risk blindness and lack of preparedness to undermine sustainability performance. The programme will also consider the qualities of future-ready directors and executives, including curiosity, humility, systems thinking, ethical responsibility, situational awareness and future-focused leadership.

Through presentations, case discussions and guided peer dialogue, this half-day programme will help directors and senior leaders reflect on how their organisations currently approach sustainability governance, where the gaps may lie, and what practical steps can be taken to build stronger ESGT oversight. Participants will leave with clearer boardroom questions, sharper governance perspectives and practical insights to support sustainability, stakeholder trust
