Strategic level board assessment that can be used to prioritise key strategic issues and implement actionable plans for greater board effectiveness. It covers:

  • Document review
  • Online questionnaire
  • Confidential 1:1 interviews
  • Summary report & debrief
  • Board working session & action planning

3 levels of focus:

  • Overall board
  • Board committees
  • Individual directors

May be recommended to companies embarking on their first external exercise. The Board Online Questionnaire is designed to:

  • Be an alternative (but not replacement) to a full board evaluation.
  • Be used as a basis for external assessment when interviews are not wanted/preferred.
  • Provide automated outputs for easy comparison of responses & analysis
  • Offer preliminary insights into the effectiveness of the board

Viewed as a stepping stone to the fully independent evaluation exercise, the online platform will include an extensive bank of questionnaires that will provide rich insights and help to surface issues and/or thoughts that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Designed for companies who have embarked on the independent evaluation exercise for prior years, the ‘Hybrid’ version provides an opportunity for companies to ‘pick and choose’ the desired components of the evaluation process.

Additional evaluation options such as conducting 1:1 interviews with selected directors instead of the entire board based on key responsibilities, carry out a collective/group facilitated discussion or workshop style to elicit wider feedback from stakeholders, or thematic focus, i.e. on sustainable leadership or board architecture or board governance.

10 Key Parameters of ICDM’s BDEE Framework

Starting from 2023, we have added review on ESG considerations across the 10 key parameters (where relevant), looking at the effectiveness of ESG integration across the Board’s responsibilities.

05
Continued Focus on Sustainability & ESG Integration
  • In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, ESG considerations are no longer optional—they are integral to long-term value creation and risk management.
  • Our BDEE process goes beyond traditional governance assessments to include a comprehensive evaluation of ESG integration across the board’s responsibilities.
  • Our evaluation framework covers the review of organisations’ ESG performance and how it is embedded within the organisation, in consideration of the best practice requirements from the MCCG and Bursa Malaysia’s Enhanced Sustainability Reporting Requirements.
  • Through our sustainability-focused evaluations, we assist boards in identifying areas of
strength and opportunities for improvement in their ESG practices. This involves evaluating the
alignment of board strategies with ESG objectives, assessing the robustness of ESG agendas,
and ensuring that ESG considerations are integrated into boardroom discussions and decisionmaking processes.
  • Moreover, we facilitate ESG competency self-assessments as part of our Directors Development
Analysis (DDA), enabling directors to gauge their understanding of specific ESG issues and
identify areas that require additional development.

Testimonials BDEE Client’s

Client from Banking Industrya

What we valued most were the wholesome and professional manner it was done and being able to achieve our objectives. We can adopt a similar
methodology moving forward. In the past, the BDEE was done using internal resources, and the scope and outcome was somewhat limited.

Client from Banking Industry

The exercise was very comprehensive, and I can’t think of a single item that was left out. ICDM’s BDEE questionnaire contain all pillars to measure an effective board. The presentation to the board was eye-opening and allows the directors to deliberate on the findings. Really, it was amazing work ICDM!

Client from Brewery Industry

We valued the independent assessment the most. It is always good to get such an assessment from an independent party with unbiased perspective. The assessment toolkit used by ICDM is comprehensive, covering all important aspects.
