Virtual ICDM Advocacy Dialogue & Networking
The Launch of 2024 ASEAN Board Trends Report & The ASEAN Directors Registry

The past months have been a challenging one for businesses not just across ASEAN but globally, with even harsher VUCA business landscape, impending financial crisis and geopolitical tussles among the many other disruptions. As key corporate governance leaders, boards’ primary roles are steering the corporate strategy, oversights over management, ensuring fair return for shareholders while overseeing the overall risk and opportunities and the wider stakeholders’ interests.

Key themes coming out from the 2024 ASEAN Board Trends Study questions whether the board have the insights and foresight to assess and steer the organisation’s business model, governance, talents, dynamics, and culture to position itself for the future.

  • Are they doing these effectively?
  • Do they have the people with right skillset and mindset to move the organisation in the right direction with all the change in expectations and way of doing things?
  • Are they setting the right priorities?
  • What are the views of the senior management on their boards’ performance?
  • Do they feel that their board is adding value to the organisation?
  • How can board and board-management dynamics be better?

Come join us for the launch of the Report to discuss these and more. The Institute of Corporate Directors Malaysia (ICDM) initiated and conducted the Study in collaboration with our ASEAN partners – the Institute of Directors Thailand (IoD Thai), Institute of Corporate Directors, Philippines (ICDPh), Vietnam Institute of Directors (VIOD), Myanmar Institute of Directors (MIoD), Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), Indonesian Institute for Corporate Directorship (IICD), Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd and the International Business Chamber of Cambodia (IBC) under the ASEAN IOD Network initiative in Q4 last year.

We will also be announcing our new initiative under the ASEAN IOD Network – the ASEAN Directors Registry, a platform that facilitates the identification, nomination, and appointment of qualified and diverse directors across ASEAN companies and beyond.

Key Highlights of 2024 ASEAN Board Trends Report + Launch of the ASEAN Directors Registry
In fostering a more effective board, fundamental changes might be necessary to revamp the board architecture and culture. This year’s report shed light into these board questions:

  • Board effectiveness. Are boards updated on current and future business landscape and trends that may impact or give rise to new opportunities the organisation? Are they continuously learning and evaluating themselves?
  • Board-Management relationship & dynamics. Why are there differing views in key agenda moving forward and expectations of the boards from management’s viewpoint?
  • Board architecture & culture. What kind of board should you be? What value can you bring to the table? Does the board have the right skills and mental shift to drive future growth?
  • Board & sustainability. Where are we now? What are the main challenges? What will be the focus moving forward?
