Chen Li-Kai brings with him over 25 years of experience in corporate and advisory roles, working with top organisations globally across the private, public and social sectors.
He was a Senior Partner of McKinsey and Company until 2024, and the Managing Partner for McKinsey in Malaysia. Li-Kai is a former President, and Chair of the Executive Committee, of the Board of Directors for McKinsey and Company Inc. (Malaysia) and the Head of the Corporate Finance Practice in Malaysia, covering investments, capital markets, mergers and corporate restructuring. He was also a founding member, and the Global Head of the Education Practice at McKinsey, advising governments, school systems and higher education institutions across more than 30 countries and systems globally on improving learning outcomes, student experiences and employment prospects.
Prior to joining McKinsey, he worked with Barclays Bank PLC in their investment banking arm Barclays Capital in the UK and in Greater China. He began his career working on civil engineering major projects with an international infrastructure group Balfour Beatty PLC.
Li-Kai holds a MBA from Harvard Business School, a Masters of Science in Risk Management from the University of Reading and a Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying from Birmingham City University.Li-Kai currently serves on the board of trustees of non-profit and educational institutions such as Teach for Malaysia, and the Alice Smith Schools Association.
