Cheryl Khor is a Faculty Member and Fellow of ICDM. Cheryl sits as a board member, audit chair, sustainability chair, and nomination, remuneration and risk committees of numerous companies in Malaysia and overseas. She specialises in subjects relating to corporate governance, risk management, and internal audit and board effectiveness evaluations.

She started her career in audit at EY covering Financial Audits, IPOs, and Due Diligence Reviews. She then left EY to Deloitte to build a career and consulting practice focuses on Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Governance, IT, and Cyber Security. In Deloitte, Cheryl was the Managing Partner of the Risk Advisory business in Malaysia as well as the Head of Corporate Governance for Malaysia. In addition, she is also the Deputy Leader of Corporate Governance in South East Asia. Her stellar performance in Deloitte eventually led her to be appointed as the Accounting & Internal Controls Leader for the Asia Pacific (covering Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, India, Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia). She was also elected as a board member of Deloitte South East Asia and appointed to the board strategy committee.

Cheryl has more than 25 years of experience covering financial, operational, and internal audits as well as governance, controls, and risk assessments for clients across a broad range of industries. Specifically, she has been involved in numerous process improvements and controls transformation projects. An active media contributor and with a number of published papers, Cheryl is a familiar face in numerous panels, seminars, workshops, and talks on internal audit, corporate governance, and sustainability amongst others.

She has served large companies in a broad range of industry sectors including sovereign wealth funds, investment funds, oil & gas, infrastructure, healthcare, construction, property development, asset management, and consumer business. She also led and project managed various engagements in Internal Audit, Corporate Governance reviews, Board effectiveness and Board succession planning, Operational audits, IPOs, Due Diligence, Enterprise risk management, SOX 404 implementation, Business process review, controls transformation, and review of policies.

As a faculty member of ICDM, Cheryl is one of our main facilitators for our signature “Introduction to Corporate Directorship” programme and MCCG sessions for Malaysian directors, as well as the lead facilitator for board evaluations under ICDM for its corporate clients across various industries. In her career, she has led and performed more than 40 board effectiveness assessments and corporate governance reviews for companies of various sectors.

Cheryl is a guest lecturer for Sunway University Business School Masters Programme delivering talks under the Finance and Sustainability Module. She has also worked with Monash University Malaysia School of Business as a programme reviewer, resource contributor, and guest lecturer on topics of governance and sustainability. She is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia, and the Malaysian Association of Risk and Insurance Management.
