Cheng Guan has over 26 years my experience in the field of taxation. The first five years of his career were dedicated to corporate income tax compliance and advisory services. He then transitioned into indirect tax, where he has since developed expertise. His work spans advisory and compliance services across a wide range of indirect tax areas, including service tax, sales tax, goods and services tax, excise duty, customs-related matters such as importation and exportation, and tax facilities involving free zones, licensed manufacturing warehouses, and duty exemptions. His client portfolio includes companies across a broad spectrum of industries.
He has managed and executed GST implementation projects for numerous local government-linked companies and multinational corporations. He also regularly advises clients on tax positions and assists in seeking written confirmations from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department. Cheng Guan has provided written guidance on the valuation of imported and locally manufactured goods for tax and duty purposes, aligning with WTO valuation rules, and has license and royalty agreements to assess their valuation implications on importation.
In addition to advisory work, Cheng Guan has conducted GST and SST due to diligence exercises during mergers acquisitions and restructuring transactions - from initial review to post-deal implementation. He is also an active speaker in indirect tax conferences, seminars, and forums, and is frequently featured in print media.
