Programme Description
This half-day session covers manifestations of corporate frauds, highlighting the various financial scandals involving accounting misstatements & earnings manipulation, management misconduct, conflicts of interest, embezzlement & asset misappropriation, bribery and money laundering. Actual case studies focus on two companies listed on Bursa and Malaysian companies involved with telecommunications and ponzi-style investments.
We will deep-dive into recent financial debacles to understand the mechanics by which these frauds were carried out and the important financial ‘red flags’ that should have alerted the audit committees or directors that something was just not right and not to take whatever is reported at the meetings as being above board i.e. the need to be financially skeptical in governance & financial oversight.
Participants are also invited to share their own knowledge of any corporate shenanigans that they are aware of to add to the lessons learnt and to reinforce awareness of such fraudulent possibilities.
