Strong behavioural dynamics, underpinned by a high degree of self-awareness, power a Board's effectiveness. They provide an environment where every board member is valued and treated respectfully so that they are aligned, confident, inspired and able to contribute to effective oversight and decision making. This session explores the topic in depth in a highly participative and practical way from building high performing boards to managing conflict and dealing with dysfunction.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain the importance of self-awareness and how to increase individual and collective self-awareness in a board context.
  • Identify the characteristics of a successful Board and healthy Board culture as well as how to develop effective relationship with the executive and other key stakeholders,
  • Enhance their power and influence in and outside the board room by identifying key personal effectiveness
  • Recommend alignment on the major things (e.g., vision, strategy, culture, values and stakeholder strategy)
  • Identify good behaviours in decision making processes including roles in decision making, bias, engagement and making decisions under pressure
  • Recognise the role of diversity and inclusion in optimising performance
  • Describe ways of managing conflict effectively, managing cultural differences, and removing directors
